In case you’re wondering. Military service is compulsery in Israel for both men and women. Women are required to serve 2 years. However, religious or married women are exempt.

  2. Again, a word of explanation: unfortunatly, this doesn’t mean that she’ll be free in two weeks. the army’s standard procedure is to hand her a draft notice when she leaves prision, and if she refuses again – sentence her immidietly to two more weeks. The famous five accumulated between 80 days and a year this way, before they were brought before a tribunal and sentenced to a year in prision. After that they were discharged on grounds of – get this – lack of mitivation.

  3. Idan was released on Tuesday (27 Dec 05). Apparently, she is “unfit for military service” ;)
