Forget the politics. Forget the national struggle. its there, yes, but above all there’s young people who want to own their life.

  1. Well, if you remember our debates last summer, you will remember, that I react easily!
How does one forget the national struggle when one is without a national homeland and when one is oppressed, lied to and one has little future to look forward to.
In fact, from the video, it seems to me, that the very essence behind the acting is to remain strong in the face of oppression. It’s particularly clear coming from the boys. Politics is everywhere everyday. Acting is politics, just as gardening is politics. It seems to me these young children don’t wish to become ‘martyrs’, but unfortunately they face an army so powerful, so mighty and a state so powerful and so dishonest, that some may see little choice but to fight physically. I don’t think it’s productive. Violence won’t give them a state anymore than acting will. But they are alone. Who is defending their cause? Is it any wonder some are so desperate they choose ‘martyrdom’?

  2. as I said, its there. of course it is. it is the backdrop for every breath you take, every step you make. I’m not trying to deny or belitle it. but let it go for a minute. what do you see? girls who wear rasta hats for head scarfs, and declare they will not be kitchen slaves. A boy who says ‘I used to want to be a martyr, but theatre gave me hope. now I want to die of old age.’

as for martyrdom, I cannot, will not, ever condone it or accept it in any way on any side. death breeds death. I respect those who fight for life, but fight in a way that respects life.

  3. My computer is too slow for most video. The theater company is great.

  4. I think we agree Yishay.
I do not condone ‘martyrdom’ any more than I condone shooting innocent people from an Apache helicopter. To condone is different from to explain. And to explain is not the same as to accept. Let’s not allow words to get out of control. That’s the job of the media and it’s masters!
