How the web was won

with 3 comments

Google is a company that understands the web. Not just as it is, but as it will be, and even how to make money off it.

While Microsoft talks and mucks about with windows.live and such other none sense, Google silently transforms itself and in the process transforms the web. What am I talking about? Googlebase just joined Googlevideo, Googleprint and Googlesitemaps. What’s the big deal? well, they’re all participatory media. What I call ssammedia – like massmedia, but with the mass the other way. Instead of mass consumption we’re talking mass production. Or, in hypeerize, web2.0. What google understood is what’s missing: it’s not yet-another-online-office suite. Any teenager can do that. Its infrastructure: big disks, powerful servers and efficient search technology. And that’s exactly what they’re going to give us.

What’s in it for us? The opertunity to construct reality. No, sersiously. Google (and technorati for that matter) being what it is, the relationship between a set of keywords and pages google lists for them is a semantic one – not because google’s so smart to infer meaning, but because by linking the content ith those words it creates meaning. Like the meaning of the words Dawn Yang Naked Pictures. Now, with googlebase, you don’t have to hack it: you just list it. The law of large numbers will do the rest.
